Alpha Kappa Psi’s story began in New York University located in New York City on October 5th, 1904. While attending night classes over the Brooklyn Bridge the bond of four men grew to be a close friendship. These four men later were known as the main founders, “Brooklyn Four”, of Alpha Kappa Psi as they melded their spirit in brotherhood and business. This fraternity was also pronounced by the ten founding fathers: Irving L Camp, Robert S Douglas, George L Bergen, Daniel V Duff, Nathan Jane Jr., Howard M Jefferson, Frederic R Leach, William O Tremaine, Morris S Rachmil, and Herbert M Wright. Alpha Kappa Psi was established on the fundamentals of educating their members and the general public to value and challenge their principles for business and individual welfare.

As time progressed so did this prestigious fraternity as they granted women full membership on August 7th, 1976. Carol R Carter was the first woman appointed as the national officer of Alpha Kappa Psi. Through adopting the tag line “shaping people, shaping business” members of Alpha Kappa Psi have progressed and grown to 13 regions spread across three contries making this one of the largest professional fraternities worldwide. Navy blue and gold were embodied as the official fraternity colors alongside the official fraternity flower being the yellow rose. This fraternity was the first professional fraternity to have a main headquarter center known as the Heritage Center in Indianapolis.
